Four independent supermarket owners have come up with their own alternative to disposable plastic shopping bags.
 
The owners of Dewsons Nedlands, Dewsons Doubleview, Dewsons Canning Bridge and Supa Valu Como went on a fact finding mission to Ireland in 2002, where a 27c levy on plastic bags has cut bag use by 90% in 5 months
 
They found shoppers were happy to use sturdy polyethylene bags so they decided to design and import their own into Western Australia. This was a significant investment by the group.
 
Approximately 200,000 of these bags have been distributed through FAL warehouse to shoppers throughout Western Australia. This bright sturdy reusable bag has been adopted by the Bag Smart campaign as an illustration bag.
