With the support of the Esperance Shire's Carmel Bremen and her band of Bag Smart volunteers the transition from handing out over 10,000 plastic bags per week down our weekly average of 200 was achieved relatively easily.

Plenty of press and promotion along with weekly bag free periods at the beginning of each new month helped make December 3 ( 2005 ) Bag Free.

in replacement we offer environment bags for $1.00 and try to hacve boxes available for those who forget to bring their bags. As a last resort a plastic bag is available at a cost of 5c a bag which will increase to 10c as of July 1st 2006.
